What is a BBL?
A BBL does not actually “lift” the buttocks as its name implies. Instead, it’s a specialized form of fat grafting that involves taking fat from one part of the body and injecting it into the buttocks. As a result, a BBL is actually 2 procedures in one: 1) liposuction to remove unwanted fat, and 2) fat grafting to inject the fat into the buttocks for more volume.
Depending on the desired results, area of excess fat, and the recommendations of your surgeon, a BBL may either be performed as a solo procedure or as part of a body lift. Unlike procedures involving implants like breast implant surgery, a BBL is considered a semi-permanent procedure. That is because of 2 factors. First, some fat cells may not survive the transfer process. And second, the results depend on the health and size of your fat cells. Maintaining your weight with diet and exercise can help results last.
Following surgery, you will need to refrain from sleeping on your back or side and sitting on your butt for 4-6 weeks. This will give the newly transferred fat cells the best chance for survival. You may experience bruising, swelling, redness and some discomfort which can be managed with proper pain medication. Dr. Tran may also require you to wear a compression garment. A compression garment will support areas where fat was removed and help shape your new buttocks.
