As with the nose and lips, the chin is an essential and defining facial trait. If you are bothered by your weak or recessed chin or feel like your facial features lack proportion, chin implant surgery can help bring your face back into balance. We are happy to offer chin implant surgery here at Artemedica in Santa Rosa performed by double-board certified Dr. Lacombe. Chin implants can help strengthen and straighten the contours of the jaw and creates better definition between the jawline and the neck. As a result, chin implant recipients feel more confident in their appearance.
Chin implants for a stronger, well-defined jawline
Chin implants are shaped silicon implants used in conjunction with chin surgery (mentoplasty) to give the chin more projection. They are small and solid with no chance of leaking or puncture. Implants vary in size and contour; your facial plastic surgeon will help you to choose the right size and style to achieve your desired degree of enhancement while also providing the most natural results. When inserted by a trained and certified surgeon like Dr. Lacombe, chin implants will feel similar to your natural chin; it will also be impossible to tell whether you have had chin augmentation. Chin implant surgery at Artemedica with Dr. Lacombe
Chin implant surgery is a very straightforward procedure that takes only 1 to 2 hours to complete. At Artemedica, we use both general and local anesthesia for a comfortable experience. During the procedure, your cosmetic surgeon will make a small incision either underneath the chin or inside the mouth depending on where the implant will ultimately sit. Through this incision, your surgeon will create space for the implant and fit it around the chin bone. Following surgery, the incision is closed with tiny sutures.
No two chin surgery procedures are the same. Artemedica’s Dr. Lacombe tailors each surgery to meet each patient’s unique goals. Whether you’re looking to correct a weak jawline or bring your face into better proportion, Dr. Lacombe will discuss your options with you to determine which technique best meets your needs. No matter what you’re looking to accomplish, Dr. Lacombe will work with you to ensure your satisfaction.
Recovering from surgery
As with all surgeries, your body will need time to recover. Most chin augmentation patients experience very little downtime. They are often able to return to work and normal activities within 7 days after surgery. During this week however, we strongly advise limiting your daily activities and taking things easy. You will likely experience bruising, swelling and some discomfort. This should be minimal and easily treated with pain medication and cold compresses. You will need to sleep face-up with your head elevated for a minimum of 1 – 2 weeks following surgery to help with any swelling and to protect the incision site. Within 4 weeks after surgery, you should be able to return to strenuous activities such as exercise and any heavy lifting.
You will be able to see results immediately following surgery. Once the bruising and swelling subside, you should be able to see your final look. This may not happen for a month. However, some patients do not see final results until about 3 months after surgery. Scars may be visible around the implant site. Chin implants are strong, durable medical devices that are intended to be permanent. So while the aging process may affect your facial features in other ways, your chin contour will not change.
Customizing your cosmetic surgery
While many patients choose to have chin implant surgery alone, your surgeon can also perform this cosmetic surgery in combination with other facial plastic surgery procedures. Complementary procedures include:
Sometimes, patients who come in for a chin implant consultation discover that injectable fillers such as Juvéderm Volux XC would better meet their surgical goals. Dr. Lacombe is more than happy to put together a unique surgical plan to achieve your goals.
