Spring break is nearing so we have compiled our favorite tips to keep your skin in great shape for the week of fun in the sun! Show off your radiant skin with these simple tips…
1. DON’T FORGET YOUR SUNSCREEN!
Hands down, the most important tip- stock up on sunscreen! We recommend SPF 30+ zinc or titanium oxide (at least 5%) sunscreen for broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection. These two ingredients make your sunscreen a physical block, literally making the UVA/UVB rays bounce off of your face, like a ball to a court. A chemical sunscreen, however, with active ingredients harder to pronounce, allow UVA/UVB rays to penetrate your skin. Do your research by reading the ingredient list on the back of your sunscreen before you purchase. Our favorite sunscreens are by Elta MD and SkinMedica.
2.WAX, WAX, WAX!
Make sure you have your wax appointments scheduled! It is no surprise that waxing’s biggest season is here! From mid-March through July our books are full of waxing appointments for those that want to show off their smooth legs and more. We offer full body waxing as well as facial waxing at our Santa Rosa Med Spa. We recommend waxing a few days before you begin your trip so that your skin has time to calm.
3. EXFOLIATE!
Exfoliate those dead skin cells! Regardless of the season, sloughing off dead skins cells is a must to keep your skin feeling and looking soft and smooth. Our skin tends to build up more dead skin cells over the winter months so spring is the perfect time to exfoliate! Our favorite exfoliation techniques are in office treatments such as microdermabrasion and at home treatments like Replenix Exfoliation Scrub.
4. PROTECT YOUR FACE, AND EYES!
Increase the protection! Many of us remember the sunscreen but don’t think about the added protection that a sun hat and sunglasses give to our face and skin around our eyes. At Artemedica Optica we have a large selection of designer sunglasses from Ray Ban, Maui Jim, Persol, Tom Ford, Mykita, Barton Perreira and more. Maui Jim offers polarized plus patented UV Ray blocking lenses that block out 99% to 100% of UVA and UVB radiation. As far as sun hats go there are many online retailers that offer sun protection but just as we warned you with sunscreen, always check the labels. To ensure you are investing in a product that will actually protect you from harmful UV Rays, look for an UPF of 50 or more.
5. LIGHTEN YOUR MAKEUP BAG!
After following tips 1-4 the last thing you should be doing is piling on the makeup. A face full of makeup in the sun will leave you looking and feeling heavy and sticky. Leave the mascara, eyeliner, shadow, concealer and lipstick at home. Instead, add multi-purpose products with foundation-like coverage with the added benefit of sun protection. Look for combination products like Colorescience‘s Sunforgettable Powder and EltaMD‘s UV Daily Tinted sunscreen. Throw on some lip gloss (Colorescience has SPF in their gloss) and you’re good to go. Let your fresh and glowing face show!
